About
I am a research-active lecturer with a background in Sociology (BSc) and Social Statistics (MSc and PhD). Having trained as a social scientist, I have been working in health research since completing my doctoral training in 2015. In my research, a broader aim has been to identify the modifiable mechanisms involved in aetiology of common mental disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions using data from existing epidemiological studies and routine data sources. I have also published research in other areas, including reproductive health and the safety of psychotropic medication during pregnancy. Over the years, I have developed a methodological interest in the quantitative methods we can use to strengthen causal inference in observational studies and have applied these throughout my research.
In my academic roles, I lead the modules Epidemiology and Statistics in Public H and supervise quantitative dissertation projects for MPH students and PhD students. I am also the year 2 theme lead for Public, Preventative & Global Health (PPGH) within the University of Liverpool MBChB programme and supervise Research and Scholarship projects for third-year medical students.
