A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Professor Scott trained in Scotland and Liverpool and was appointed in 1996, as a Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine.
Her clinical research interests and MD are in lung cancer. In addition, she has held numerous lead roles in medical education. Prior to her appointment as the Dean of the School of Medicine in Liverpool, in July 2017, she was an Associate Postgraduate Dean (Quality) in the Scotland Deanery, Deputy Head of the University of Glasgow Undergraduate Medical School and Director of Medical Education for a large Health Board. She also previously created the Scottish Junior Doctors Online Training System and its e-learning modules for NHS Education Scotland (NES), and led the development of the NES Support Around Death website and its resources for healthcare professionals.
A Fellow of both the Glasgow and London Royal Colleges of Physicians, she has also held the roles of Honorary Secretary, Director of Medical Education, Director of CPD and Vice President Medical of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and has served on numerous national committees and working groups.
Educationally, she has particular interests in the areas of e-learning, communication skills, simulation and professionalism and holds a Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
