About
I joined the University of Liverpool in January 2022, after working as a lecturer in English at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. I completed my DPhil in English at the University of Oxford in May 2021. My research and creative practice centres around the relationship between theatrical form and politics. My PhD thesis, entitled 'Experiments with Realism in Contemporary Feminist Theatre in Britain', was joint winner of the 2021 Swapna Dev Memorial Book Prize (awarded to the best doctoral thesis submitted to the Faculty of English at Oxford). I am currently adapting my PhD research into a monograph in Bloomsbury Methuen's Engage Series. In 2016, I won the Theatre & Performance Research Association postgraduate essay prize. My work has been published in Studies in Theatre & Performance and Contemporary Theatre Review.
I am also a playwright and theatre critic. Most recently, my new play, Four Letter Words, was shortlisted for the Homotopia Award 2023. Four Letter Words explores online intimacy and loneliness during the Covid-19 pandemic. My play, Andromeda, a queer, contemporary adaptation of Euripides' play, was performed at Camden People's Theatre in July 2021. The project was developed with funding support from Arts Council England and The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, and partnerships with theatres including Camden People's Theatre and Nottingham Playhouse, as well as the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama. In 2019-20, I was a SPARK Supported Artist with Pegasus Theatre, Oxford, and was commissioned to write a show for their young company.
I enjoy collaborating with theatre practitioners and arts organisations, and would be delighted to discuss potential creative/ research collaborations.
