About

Following my undergraduate studies in Ukraine, I pursued further education in the US. As a PhD student and later as a postdoctoral research associate, I worked with non-pathogenic yeast and filamentous fungi model systems to understand the mechanisms of genome stability, which are important for human cancers. Presently, I serve as a Scientific Outreach and Education Specialist for FungiDB.org. FungiDB is a free online knowledgebase for fungal and oomycete species, supported through the VEuPathDB.org platform. FungiDB.org serves as a valuable resource to the wider research community. It follows FAIR principles and ensures that all data analysis records are freely accessible worldwide. This resource seamlessly integrates published datasets and bioinformatics tools into an intuitive web-based interface, facilitating comprehensive data mining and visualisation approaches. In my current capacity, I concentrate on fostering connections between FungiDB and the fungal and oomycete research communities. My duties span attending conferences, organising workshops, creating teaching materials, conducting webinars, contributing to publications and grant proposals, facilitating data integration and quality assurance of the integrated datasets, supporting the FungiDB help desk, and engaging in collaborative projects within the VEuPathDB team amongst other responsibilities.
