Dr. Esther Kalkman is a health and environmental scientist and a postdoctoral researcher at the NIHR CLEAN-Air (Africa) Global Health Research Unit. Her research areas include clean cooking, household air pollution, and public health. Her work focuses on addressing the health burden from household and institutional air pollution from reliance on polluting solid fuels and kerosene by implementing research, health system strengthening, and capacity building activities. In collaboration with researchers across East and Central Africa, she is responsible for high-quality data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of findings. Her expertise covers a wide range of scientific methods, including implementation studies, randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews, and cost-effectiveness studies. Dr. Kalkman is committed to public engagement and knowledge dissemination. She is a dedicated advocate for addressing household air pollution as a critical issue for planetary health.
