Research
Most research and publications to date have involved interdisciplinary and cross-cultural issues including language and gender; nationalism and national identity expressed via football and football writing; various aspects of the history, politics, business and sociology of football, with particular interest in Spain, Italy, Argentina and Mexico. More recently I have been doing some research into football and homophobia and the impact of language and gender policy in international (football) organisations. I have also presented and published on various aspects of the undergraduate student experience: in particular, successful outcomes for students with non-traditional qualifications, graduate employability, internationalisation and transnational education.
I have published in a range of journals and books, including the co-authorship of three books and one co-edited text. My research outputs have had impact in the football industry (e.g. club and international corporate social responsibility policies), language debates in the EU, and on the scholarship of learning and teaching in HE (especially transnational education).
