Teaching

I contribute to education of veterinary undergraduate students through formal lectures, seminars and supervision of students during equine clinical rotations through my clinical work. This encompasses teaching of equine gastroenterology, surgery of the abdomen, skin, upper respiratory tract, emergency and critical care.

I promote application of research, evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) principles and quality improvement (including clinical audit) within the veterinary profession through my teaching and clinical work. In my role as Head of Veterinary Research, I also facilitate the conduct of undergraduate research projects and promote research by developing and leading the annual veterinary student research showcase event. I also contribute to postgraduate teaching through taught programs run by the veterinary postgraduate unit (VPU).

Currently, I am leading a project (LASSIE - Liverpool veterinary surgical skills resource) to develop a new online teaching resource to facilitate and enhance the teaching of surgical practice across the BVSc curriculum.

Equine surgery

The Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital I perform routine and emergency equine surgery duties (during normal hours and out of hours duties) and teaching of undergraduate veterinary students and postgraduate veterinary students through my clinical work at the hospital. I was formerly Head of Equine Surgery (2013 - 2021) and Deputy Head of the Department of Equine Clinical Studies (2015 - 2023).
