Professional Activities

I have made particular efforts to shape the nature of public debate, particularly on issues relating to race and empire. These include outreach with schools, colleges and colleagues in related disciplines, outreach with museums, particularly through my Being Human Festival award (2019) for a collaborative project with World Museum, Liverpool, on “Untold Histories of Empire” (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/history/blog/2019/untold-histories-of-empire/); and a range of media articles, most notably for The Conversation. I am also active in forging international collaborative projects and working groups, particularly on colonialism and violence, as well as governmentality and colonial archives, and am involved in a range of school and faculty initiatives across the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Liverpool, particularly to do with internationalisation, education and decolonising curricula. I'm also a keen participant in organisations that serve to promote my discipline and areas of expertise, such as the Independent Social Research Council and the British Association of South Asian Studies, of which I am currently the treasurer.
