About

I apply techniques from corpus linguistics to the study of English language use, addressing problems with a linguistic cause. I have a background in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). I am currently conducting research on English phraseology across a broad range of communicative situations, including public heath messaging, veterinary texts, literary short stories, and speakers of English as an Additional Language. I joined the English department at the University of Liverpool in 2018 after teaching, researching, and leadership roles at public and private schools and universities in the UK, China, the USA, and Turkey. I am also the lead for Recruitment, Admissions, and Widening Participation in the School of the Arts.

In Semester 1 of the 2026-27 academic year my Support and Feedback Hours are on Mondays from 1.30pm-3.30pm or by appointment.
