Multifunctional Heterocyclic Materials

We are interested in the development of both open and closed shell heterocyclic compounds for the purpose of magnetism, conductivity ( bulk material or single molecule), photochromism and/or gas sorption. We use organic and inorganic synthetic techniques to generate these materials.

Advanced X-ray Crystallography

We study our target compounds using advanced crystallographic techniques via in-house and synchrotron sources. These include structure by powder methods, or by obtaining single crystal data on our materials upon the application of high pressure, at ultra-low temperatures or when irradiated with light. Also of interest are crystal structures of room temperature liquids and the physical properties of “soft” materials via SAXS techniques.
