About
In September 2000 I qualified as a RGN and took the bold move to move to a city and hospital that I had never lived, worked or studied in before. Since then Liverpool has been my home and I would consider the Royal Liverpool Hospital where I gained my wings!
I spent the first 5 years of my career in upper GI and colorectal surgery before moving into critical care services. This is where my passion lies and I have a keen interest in the rehabilitation of adult critical care service users.
I have always enjoyed the challenge and reward of supporting and encouraging learning in new staff and students to our clinical areas and in 2009 I joined the university on a part time secondment to support clinical skills teaching. In 2011 I returned to trust full time but regularly supported teaching on clinical modules on the programme as a guest speaker.
In 2015 I joined the University full time on a teaching and scholarship contract and have been module lead for various clinical skills modules, practice placement modules and our 3rd year leadership module.
From 2019 until 2022 I was the placement lead for the programme, a role that came under great pressure and focus in March 2020 when we deployed our 3rd year cohort to the front line pandemic nursing workforce. Also during this time I helped to introduce our new electronic practice assessment record, roll out the new 2018 NMC standards for supervision and collaborate with our Cheshire and Merseyside partners in ensuring our future workforce can meet the set of proficiencies required of a new band 5 staff nurse.
In September 2022 I became the Director of Studies for the BN programme and look forward to introducing a clinical supervision programme and expanding our use of simulation.
