About

I am proud to be the holder of the University of Liverpool’s established Chair of Latin. My teaching has ranged widely across Greek and Latin literature and Roman history, while my research has concentrated for the most part on Latin literature of the early empire, with a special focus on praise literature (which has contributed to my University role of Public Orator); this forms part of a larger international research project on praise oratory which I co-lead with Professor Roger Rees (St Andrews).

My current research has a focus on praise literature: two larger projects are completion of my commentary on Pliny’s Panegyricus which will be a large-scale monograph, and a co-edited volume on Praising Constantine with Prof. Roger Rees (St Andrews).
