I am an enthusiastic about the use of Interpretive Phenomenology Analysis (IPA) and exploring the 'Lived Experience' of pre-registration learners in the context of caring for cancer patients. Other research interests encompasses:
- The use of clinical simulation
-Radiotherapy induced pelvic late-effects and survivorship
-Colorectal cancer
-Radiotherapy induced skin toxicity
-Inclusive imagery and patient care
I am currently working on a collaborative project with the City of Liverpool College, exploring the use of makeup to create simulated radiotherapy induced skin reactions. Within the fields of nursing, medicine and other health professions, simulation of pathologies and injuries provides realistic training and a range of wearable “moulage” resources are commercially available. Within the field of radiotherapy, however, there are no available products or guidance supporting how to create simulated skin reactions. There is an unacceptable lack of representation of the diverse patient population in imagery and skin care guidance currently used in radiotherapy practice. Inclusive imagery, language and management approaches are essential. Pre and Post registration programmes of therapeutic radiography education must de-colonise and ensure practice and care is inclusive. This simulation work will be a much needed catalyst for change!
