Research
I am a soft matter physicist with an interest in understanding the unique and unusual mechanical properties of living materials. My research group is broadly focussed on soft materials, biologically inspired materials and new approaches in rheology instrumentation. I currently lead the LILACS (Looking Inside Living Algal Cell Walls - A Soft Matter Approach) research consortium, which is focussed on reaching a fundamental understanding of mechanical properties of the cell walls of green algae, with partners at Durham University and Imperial. More details of this can be found here.
