Education & Teaching Experience
Amel has extensive teaching experience at both postgraduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) level. She has taught on both core modules (Tort, Criminal law and English Legal Systems) and led on large optional modules such as Medical Law & Ethics and Family Law. She has designed new modules which have proved to be very popular with students ( eg Medicine, Law and Ethics II (UG) and Children, Medicine and Law (PG)). Amel has a sustained record of innovative practice in the design and delivery of teaching and learning. This is evidenced in the two teaching awards she has been received from both the University and the students via the Guild. This is also mirrored in the very high levels of attainment students in those modules receive and her consistently high (Evasys) feedback scores. Amel in her former positions as SLSJ Associate Dean (Education), Faculty Education Committee member and SLSJ Chair of Board of Studies (2017-2019), has played a leading contribution to shaping teaching policy and practice within the School. Amel has acted as a member of both the Faculty Progress Board and University Disciplinary Committee. Amel has also chaired the School Teaching Development Fund Committee which funds projects or developments designed to improve the teaching and learning experience. Amel is currently a teaching and research mentor, acting as a role model and offering peer review and feedback to younger colleagues to help develop their teaching and research practice. She also delivers teaching and lectures to non law students e.g. medical students and medical practitioners. In terms of external appointments, Amel has acted as an external examiner at the University of Glasgow and the University of Sussex. She has also held external advisory appointments to other Universities, advising/ approving new programmes. Amel has acted as an external examiner of PhDs and has successfully supervised PhD students to completion.
