About

I am a criminologist who is interested in punishment and the ways it is (and isn't) related to justice. More specifically, much of my work has been about prisons, with a particular focus on how men convicted of sex offences experience their imprisonment, and what it morally communicates to them about who they are and what they have done.

After doing an undergraduate degree in English Literature, I did an MPhil in Criminological Research at the University of Cambridge, followed by a PhD. After that, I had several postdoctoral roles: as a Research Associate on the Comparative Penology project, conducting ethnographic research in England & Wales and Norway in prisons holding women and prisons holding men convicted of sex offences; as an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow; and on an ESRC New Investigator Grant exploring overlaps between confinement and the anthropology of ethics.
