About

I am an ocean biogeochemist, interested in how the cycling of resources in the sea affects biological activity and vice-versa. I am particularly interested in trace micronutrients and how they interact together to shape primary production, ecosystem structure and the global carbon cycle.

My science links numerical models, at both global and idealised scales, with both fieldwork and synthesis of datasets.

I am heavily involved in the international GEOTRACES programme, was a lead author on the IPCC Special Report on Oceans and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate and am a member of the governing council of the UK Challenger Society for Marine Science. I am also UK Chair for SCOR and sit on the Royal Society Global Environment Research Committee.
