What motivated you to study abroad?
There were two main reasons for my interest in studying abroad. The first was to complement my academic development, I consider spending some time living abroad as an essential part of my studies and an experience that will demonstrate my employability.
The second reason was for character development. A major component of studying abroad is meeting new people from all sorts of backgrounds.
I believed that being able to spend a semester in a new city would enable me to truly explore and understand business from a different cultural and academic perspective.
Where did you go and why did you choose this University?
I chose to go to City University of Hong Kong because the thought of living in Asia, especially in a major global hub such as Hong Kong, really excited me. They call it the gateway between the East and West and I thought it would be an opportunity to explore Asia.
What was the biggest challenge that you faced and how did you overcome this?
CityU places a great emphasis on group work and while this is a great chance to interact and really get to know local students, if I wanted to be involved, I had to make an effort. I found that the best way to deal with this was to initiate and organise group meetings in person.

In addition to your studies, what did you do?
Obviously, I had to take the opportunity to travel around Asia. During the semester I went to Thailand and South Korea. Otherwise I made the most of living in Hong Kong and explored beyond the city. I went on numerous hikes, bike rides and swims.
Would you recommend Study Abroad?
YES! I think the idea of living in a completely different place is reason enough.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about Study Abroad?
Do a lot of research and try to see if it is a place you want to be for 4 months.
What skills do you think you have enhanced or gained through your study abroad experience?
I have definitely gained independence, resourcefulness, creativity and social skills.
