Management School hosts Business Breakfast on Selling Sustainably

The Management School hosted its latest Business Breakfast on Wednesday 21 September and the theme was “Selling Sustainably – Embedding Ethical Selling Practices and Principles.”

The session was run in partnership with Professional Liverpool and the Sales Steering Group, kindly sponsored by Bruntwood. It featured guest speakers Jo Meehan, Professor of Responsible Procurement at the Management School and lead of the new Centre for Sustainable Business and Chris Dawson, Director of 6th Door, an organisation that designs and delivers tailored sales training and coaching programmes to businesses across the world.

The two speakers presented academic and industry perspectives on how businesses should be more aware of the importance of ethical selling and adopting sustainable business practices in order to thrive and future proof themselves.

In addition to exploring emerging ethical issues for business, Prof Meehan referred to her research into modern slavery, explaining that companies need to commit more time and resources to fully understanding their supply chains, given the fact that almost two thirds of the average company’s ESG footprint lies with suppliers.

Chris Dawson’s interactive presentation focused on where non-ethical sales practices stem from and also what sales leaders can do to ensure that their teams are aware of the fact that buyers and consumers are looking for more than just a low price – sustainability is increasingly becoming a significant criterion, particularly for younger buyers.

A lively Q&A session followed the presentation, with some interesting insights and comments being shared.

Hazel Kennedy, External Engagement Manager at the Management School said,

“The event was particularly engaging and relevant as businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of adopting ESG measures. The timing was perfect, as it took place during Global Goals week in Liverpool, amongst numerous events which recognise the different challenges and opportunities in the Liverpool City Region.”

"We were delighted to see discussions continuing after the session and provide the opportunity for people to share ideas.”
