Speaker: Dr Manuel Ramirez - Work, Organisation and Management (WOM)
Title: Imagine a tree: The interplay of climate imaginaries at the U.N. Climate Change Conference of the Parties
In this seminar, Dr Aparna Venugopal (SIBE) discusses how business model value (BMV) is framed to impress beneficiaries, while impact is framed around broader socio-economic benefits.
Her research on enterprises across 14 Indian states reveals how BMV and impact framings interact, emphasising the role of reference point othering.
Dr Manuel Ramirez (WOM) examines why greenhouse emissions continue to rise despite climate action.
Based on his study of COP26, he argues that humanity's dominant climate imaginaries - the fundamental significations that drive climate action - remain unchanged, influencing climate inaction and varying engagement with different imaginaries.
SEMINAR: Research Internal Seminar Series 2024
Date: Wednesday 20 November 2024
Time: 12-1.30pm
Place: Seminar Room 3, Management School

Speaker: Louise Postema - Operations Supply Chain Management (OSCM)
Title: Bringing agri-food processing companies into the smallholder climate adaptation space: a supply chain risk management perspective
Speaker: Clare Dallas - Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship (SIBE)
Title: Sustainability as a driver for growth: An illusion or reality for female entrepreneurs scaling up?
African smallholder farmers are among the most vulnerable to climate change, yet current government and development support efforts are inadequate and often unsustainable.
Louise Postema (OSCM) introduces her research that is focused on agri-food processing companies, their dependence on smallholder farmers, and the supply chain risks faced due to smallholder vulnerability, and how smallholder adaptation can become a risk management strategy, moving beyond corporate social responsibility to business case development.
Our second speaker, Clare Dallas (SIBE) explores how gender inequalities limit access to opportunities for female entrepreneurs, hindering their business success.
In an emerging field, ecosystem environments with a strategic sustainability focus are proposed to offer greater scaling up prospects for female entrepreneurs. Clare’s research explores how sustainability principles impact the scaling goals of female entrepreneurs in such ecosystem.
