Applying
Making an application to the International Summer School is simple - it's all done online - and we are here to help should you need it.
Entry requirements
Students who wish to join the International Summer School must meet the following criteria:
- You will be a current student at undergraduate or postgraduate level, or have completed an undergraduate degree at a university worldwide
- You will be aged 18 or over on the first day of the course.
English language requirement
If English is your second language, and you are not coming from an institution with English as a medium of instruction, you must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0/CEFR B2/Upper intermediate to take part in academic modules. To join the English Communication Skills pathway, you will need to demonstrate a level equivalent to IELTS 5.0/CEFR B1/Intermediate.
We are able to accept a range of exam certificates as proof of your proficiency in English, or your home institution can vouch for you with a confirmation of language level form (WORD, 36.4KB).
Any student who is found to fall significantly below the required level on arrival may be refused registration or, if appropriate, moved to the English communication skills pathway.
Making an application
Applications are made through Liverpool’s online central application system. The first step is to create an account, receive your PIN and login, then you can begin your application.
Once completed, you’ll be able to register with our online database 'Mobility Online' to confirm your application details for your conditional offer. You will then be able to choose your modules. We recommend doing this as soon as possible to secure your first choices. You'll also receive a conditional offer, and instructions on how to pay your fees for tuition and/or accommodation.
On payment, you’ll receive an unconditional offer letter from our team. Once accepted, you will be able to register as a University of Liverpool student. We’ll also be in touch with information on a pre-departure webinar and questionnaire.
Visas
Once you have applied and paid your fees, we will supply a confirmation of study and accommodation to support your visa application. This will normally be a standard visitor visa. We recommend you check the current information from the UK government and find out the processing times for visas in your home country.
If for any reason your visa application is not successful, having been applied for in good time, we will refund your fees for both tuition and accommodation.
Current University of Liverpool and XJTLU students
The International Summer School is a great experience, whether you are new to Liverpool and the UK or not. We welcome applications from current University of Liverpool students, as well as students currently studying at XJTLU. You will qualify for a discounted tuition fee and can choose whether to take campus accommodation or not.
If you are a current student and wish to make an application, we would be happy to hear from you. When applying, please include your existing Liverpool student ID number. If you are an XJTLU student, you can contact the team there for more information and to notify them of your intention to join us, and to check if you are eligible.
Please note that for University of Liverpool students, credit gained from International Summer School modules cannot be used in your main course, although you will receive a separate transcript from your study with us.
