Dr Ruoxiao Xie is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Bioengineering within the Department of Materials, Design and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Liverpool.
She obtained her Ph.D. degree from Tsinghua University (2020) with one year research training at the University of Toronto (2017-2018). Before joining the University of Liverpool, she was a postdoctoral researcher (2020-2023) at Imperial College London and a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford (2023-2024).
Her research interests include biofabrication, tissue engineering, microfluidics and organ-on-a-chip engineering. She has innovated a range of engineering approaches and materials that can effectively control cell patterning and facilitate vascularization in engineered tissues and organoids. She has published papers in many high-impact journals, including Science Advances, Nature Protocols, Advanced Materials and ACS Central Science.
Her research group aims to develop functional engineered tissues and organ/organoid-on-a-chip platforms for applications in disease modeling, drug-screening and tissue regeneration. To achieve these goals, her group is also developing novel biomaterials and biofabrication strategies leveraging 3D printing and microfluidics to enhance vascularization and improve organized cell/tissue patterning, thereby improving the functionalities of engineered tissues and organoids.
