Dr Chao Long is a Lecturer in Digital Energy Systems. He is with Energy and Power Group of Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics in School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science. His research focuses on modelling, analysis and optimisation of smart power distribution grids and community energy systems. These include management of local energy from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, batteries and electric vehicles using a combination of novel concepts and techniques, including peer to peer (P2P) energy trading, V2X, V2G and V2V technologies, using AI/machine learning and Blockchain distributed ledger technology. Chao is a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Chao has established strong collaborative ties with industry and academic partners at both national and international levels. This is evident through his active involvement in a range of collaborative projects that have received funding from prestigious organizations such as UKRI, EPSRC, Innovate UK, DfT, and limited companies.

Chao was a Lecturer at Cranfield University (2019-2023), a Post-doc Research Associate at The University of Manchester (2013-2015) and Cardiff University (2015-2019). Prior to that, Chao received BEng Degree from Wuhan University, China in 2008, and PhD Degree from Glasgow Caledonian University, UK in 2014.

Chao has published 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, including one journal published in Nature Energy (impact factor 54.000). Chao’s research work has been well received by academia and industry. He has got Google Scholar Citations 5509 (by Dec 2023), with H-index of 27.
