How you'll learn
You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, language classes and independent study. In your first year, modules introduce the history, culture, archaeology, religion and language of Ancient Egypt through lectures and seminars. As you progress through the degree, there is an increasing emphasis on discussion-based and student-led learning, helping you to develop confidence, critical thinking and independent research skills.
Language learning forms a core part of the programme, with dedicated modules in Egyptian language and texts. You will also undertake independent research, presentations, and a final-year dissertation on a topic of your choice. Course materials are available through Canvas, and academic staff provide support through regular office hours and academic advising.
How you're assessed
You will be assessed through a variety of methods designed to develop both subject knowledge and transferable skills. These include examinations, essays, research projects, commentaries, portfolios and presentations. Language modules may also include class tests and continuous assessment to evaluate your translation, grammar and textual analysis skills.
Assessment is designed to help you develop skills in critical analysis, research, written and oral communication, and independent learning. Throughout the programme, you will receive regular feedback to support your academic progress and prepare you for further study or employment.
