Liverpool Health Partners (LHP) is a strategic partnership for creating
improvements in health through the pursuit of excellence in healthcare
delivery, research and clinical education. The overall aim of LHP is to
ensure that medical research breakthroughs lead to direct clinical
benefits for patients.

Health Partners
The partnership involves the University of Liverpool
and the following Merseyside hospital trusts: Aintree
University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Alder Hey
Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Clatterbridge Cancer
Centre NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Women’s
Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Liverpool and
Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, The Walton
Centre NHS Foundation Trust.
LHP is organised around clinical academic programmes
that demonstrate international excellence in research. This
research excellence is supported by the co‑ordination
of clinical services among the partnering NHS trusts.
LHP focuses on academic programmes in cancer;
infection; drugs; and musculoskeletal conditions and
diseases. They will be supported by several cross-cutting
programmes, which include a joint research office.
LHP builds upon Liverpool’s NHS/Higher Education
strengths to create a single, corporate identity and
a central, joined-up partner for clinically focused
healthcare research. It offers an ideal interface for
external organisations that wish to collaborate with the
University on clinical or health and wellbeing research
as it offers a smooth pathway from the laboratory to the
bedside. It also offers a wider pool of expertise to external
organisations and encourages a wider, multidisciplinary
approach to research.
LHP intends to expand and attract new members which
will broaden the basis for strategic development and
enhance opportunities for collaboration. Although most
members will come from the NHS and academia within
the city region, we also expect members to emerge from
industry and other sectors from across a broad
healthcare landscape.
