The Technology Directorate
Certain enabling technologies are found commonly
in the life science sector, with specific technologies
supporting research from a wide variety of
applications. Access to such technology is crucial to
undertake world-class research, and the University
has recently established a Technology Directorate
to facilitate this. By doing so, it aspires to provide
the best possible access to world-class facilities for
all scientists and early career researchers with the
ultimate aim of promoting academic excellence.
The Directorate has established shared research
facilities (SRFs); managed and supported centres
for specific enabling technologies that are used
widely across the University. SRFs are run by
academic experts and supported by dedicated
technical staff. As a result academic output and
user satisfaction are considered to be key metrics
of performance. New SRFs will be established
in response to future research and knowledge
exchange (KE) opportunities.
SRFs offer far more than an analytical service; they
are centres of excellence that provide expert advice,
support and training in their specialised fields.
