  • Kay Newstead (1991)
 (M. Sc., Liverpool, 1991) did a PhD with Mike Thomas in the Liverpool Physics Mossbauer group

  • Mike Mian (1992)

    • (M. Sc., Liverpool, 1992) went to UMIST and did a PhD with Wendy Flavell; was in Bristol writing software for Zuken-Redac R&D (ic/pcb simulation and design); now (Sept 2000) working in Santa Clara (silicon valley) for Silvaco International, working on software to model nanostructures for ICs. July 2001:now working at National Semiconductor in the TCAD group, coordinating a CIM project to automate model generation, data analysis, and process optimization from the wafer fab data---still in the valley.
     
  • Dave Brooks (1993)
 (M. Sc., Liverpool, 1993) last heard of in Liverpool, working for the family business doing software and hardware

  • Steve Murray (1991-95)
 (PhD Liverpool 1995, "Structural studies of surface systems using SPA-LEED and STM") is working for Zeneca Data Communications in Manchester and still supporting Liverpool FC.
 transferred to Dr. Steve Barrett's group where she completed a PhD and hence to Trieste and the University of Lecce as a Research Assistant. Returned August 2000 for a SPALEED experiment. Now at Daresbury SRS (2003-).
Completed a part-time PhD "Geometric and electronic structure of the coadsorption of oxygen and potassium on Ni(100)" (2000).
  • Udo Beierlein (1996)
(Erasmus project student 1996) returned to Grenoble to finish his undergraduate degree.
(PhD, Liverpool 1996, "Adsorption of S and O on the Rh(100) surface") works for a semiconductor   company GP Semicon in Oldham

  • Dr. John Thornton (1997)

    • PDRA, moved to Cambridge University on a 5-year fellowship but returned to Liverpool to work with Dr. Chris Lucas and Dr. Richard Nichol. Now working in Medical Physics.
     

    (PhD 1998, "Coadsorption of potassium and nitrogen on the Ni(100) surface"), worked for Research Machines in Oxford 1998-2004, studying for a PGCE in Oxford 2004-05.
  • Dr. Esther Dudzik (1996-97)

    • (post-Doc 1996-97) worked for the magnetism consortium at Daresbury. Moved to BESSY 2 in Berlin in May 2000. Now at Hahn-Meitner Institut, in Berlin
     
  • Ronan McClafferty (1997-98)

    • (MRes, 1997-98); travelled for 18 months;  further training 2003-
     
  • Andy Norris (1996-2000)

    • (PhD, 1996-00), "Alkali metal and simple gas atom adsorption and coadsorption on transition metal surfaces") , working for Syntegra, an IT company in Surrey. Moved to Devon and training as a teacher as of 2004.
     
  • Nicola Gloria (2001)

    • Visiting student from Lannion, Bretagne (Feb-June 2001). Returned to France to complete his degree.

  • Erik Cox (1999-2002)
(PhD, 1999-02, "10-fold surface of AlNiCo") , post-doc in Ames Laboratory, Iowa with Prof. Pat Thiel
2005: Research scientist, Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, Singapore
(PhD, 1997-2000, "Five fold surface of the icosahedral Al70Pd21Mn9 quasicrystal"), PDRA 2000-2004. Now a CNRS employee at LSG2M, CNRS UMR 7584, Ecole des Mines, Parc de Saurupt, 54042 Nancy Cedex, France.

(PRDA 2000-2004), funded jointly with Prof. Ras Raval under the Marie Curie Host Development Scheme. Moved back to Germany Jan. 2005. Now (2005) a research scientist at University of Hamburg working at DESY.

(PhD student 2002-2006),  Now (2007) a research scientist at a Kelvin Probe company in Wick, Scotland.

Lydie has moved to the Chemistry Department at the University of Toronto to work in the group of Prof. John Polanyi.
