<H3>Discontinuous maps and their applications</H3>

Neuron, excitable media and impacting 
systems can all be described by using discontinuous maps. 
The dynamics of these
maps is fascinating and can display complex periodic behavious, chaotic
behaviour, period adding and farey sequences of periodic orbits. In this
talk I will describe some of the possible dynamics and show how it is 
related to applications in impacting systems
