Transverse instability of solitary waves in a (2+1)-Boussinesq
equation
In this presentation stability of solitary waves with respect to
transverse perturbations is investigated. First, we use geometric condition
for instability to study the case of small transverse wavenumbers. For
larger wavenumbers, the Evans function approach is used. It is based on a
dynamical systems formulation of the stability problem. Numerical simulations
illustrate the development of transverse instability.
