Lanthanide ions are very large and extremely bulky ligands are required to stabilise low coordination numbers. The complex shown here has the 2,6-di-t-butylphenoxy ligand. Intermolecular interactions are weak and the complex is relatively volatile: it can be sublimed under vacuum without decomposition.
