Some clues |
'Gormless' describes someone who cannot think for themselves and is not very intelligent. They always have to be told what to do. 'Peaky' describes how someone looks when they are feeling ill - a pale face, or a face with a strange colour. You're looking a bit 'peaky'. You should see the doctor. 'Bitter and twisted' describes someone who hates everything and everyone. If you're 'bitter and twisted' you do bad things to other people just because you feel so negative about everything. This expression is sometimes used humorously. 'Chilled out' means happy with life, cool and relaxed. We often use it when we give advice: 'You shouldn't be so tense. What you need to do is go and sit in the sun with a glass of wine and a book - just chill out a bit.' 'Chirpy' means talkative in a happy and positive way - a little like a bird singing. In fact we used the word, 'chirp' to describe what birds do to communicate with each other. |
