Storms at Parkgate
[from Liverpool Mercury - Saturday 28 February 1903]:
Neston and Parkgate. At Heswall and Parkgate many boats were sunk or
damaged. One of the largest boats at Parkgate, belonging to Jonathan
Mellor, was turned completely over on the dry bank after breaking the mast.
[from Lancashire Evening Post - Monday 23 November 1908]:
During last night's gale, the Parkgate fishing fleet suffered severely.
The boats were anchored in the Dee estuary, and the tide came with such
force that fully one-half of the fleet was sunk or damaged. Property
along the sea front was also damaged.
[from Cheshire Observer - Saturday 11 November 1911]:
A westerly gale of unusual severity swept over the Irish Channel on
Saturday night and Sunday morning, accompanied by a heavy sea. During
the night the wind blew with a hurricane force, such as has not been
seen for some years.
