From Chester Courant - Tuesday 11 October 1785
The KING, a new PACKET, lately built for the Conveyance of Passengers
between Parkgate and Dublin, sailed, for the first Time, on Monday
last from Parkgate; she had an extraordinary fine Passage, and arrived
safe in Dublin Harbour; and on Friday Morning, having a Number of
respectable Passengers on Board, she sailed for Parkgate, and
performed this Voyage in twelve Hours, to the pleasing Satisfaction of
the Gentlemen on board, who declared that they never experienced so
fine a Passage before. Great Praise is due to Captain Hammond, the
Master, for the Uniformity of his Conduct, and from his known
Abilities, together with the excellent and well-furnished Appartments,
with which the said Packet is fitted up, totally precludes every
Shadow of Doubt of her not answering, in all Respects, the Purpose for
which she is designed. The Prince of Wales, has been some Time in this
trade, and has greatly surpassed the most sanguine Hopes of the
Proprietors. A third, called the Queen, is in great Forwardness, and
will soon be ready; Parkgate may then boast of, and vie with, any Port
in England for the Eligibility, Dispatch, and pleasing Conveyance in
Packet Boats.
