The ship Telamon, from Liverpool, bound for the West Indies, a very heavy gale of wind blew north-west for two days, was stranded on the west isle [West Hoyle Bank] opposite the lighthouse [Point of Ayr] and was dashed to pieces. The wreck was scattered nearly two miles along shore, but very little of her cargo this [Welsh] side of the shore. The men all perished, 19 in boys and men. (The cargo and corpses remained in Lancashire [Cheshire?], likewise the bottom part of the ship.)
Lloyd's List, 17 Jan 1806, gives: The Telamon, master Crotch, from Liverpool to Jamaica is totally lost on the West Hoyle and all the crew. Whereas Lloyds register for 1806 gives spelling Telemon and master as N. Croatch.
