3.4.14 Rules for passing Years 1 and 2
Examination rules on passing from one year of study to the next conform to the ‘Model for Non-Clinical First Degree Courses’ described in the Faculty of Science Handbook. Briefly, arrangements are that you must:
In addition, you must complete all your Key Skills assignments in Years 1 and 2 to a Satisfactory standard if you are a student with a personal tutor within the School of Biological Sciences unless you are following an alternative Key Skills tutorial programme. (For full details, see Section 4).
The only exceptions to this model will be during the College years of degree courses involving study at partner colleges (currently Carmel College, Halton College and Wirral Metropolitan College). Students taking these courses will be advised of the special rules for their degrees.
If you fail Year 1 or Year 2 at the first sitting, see Appendix D for re-sit examination arrangements. None of the modules in the School of Biological Sciences has a re-sit opportunity for coursework.
Please be aware that if you fail Year 1 or Year 2 at the first attempt, you will have to retake examinations in ALL failed modules, INCLUDING ANY IN WHICH YOU OBTAINED A MARK OF 35 - 39%.
Your average mark attained in Year 2 studies will be carried forward to form 20% of your final honours degree assessment in all three year degree programmes within the School.
