Tariq Joined the University of Liverpool in September 2023 as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Partnerships. He is responsible for developing and implementing the University’s Global Vision and Strategy and provides strategic leadership on overseas activities and partnerships with academia, governments, NGOs and the private sector. A key aspect is to help promote the excellence of the university’s education and research.
Tariq is an astrophysicist with a PhD from Imperial College London. He worked in quantum systems and then the search for dark matter before leading on establishing interdisciplinary R&D in energy and environment. Tariq has worked in the public and private sector in the Middle East and South-East Asia and joined from the University of Birmingham where he was the Deputy PVC for Strategic Partnerships.
