Equine Veterinary Nursing
Our new Nursing Online CPD mini-modules have been developed for and aimed towards veterinary nurses. These 100% online modules will run over three weeks, with a different topic being covered each week, and will provide you with 15 hours of CPD
The course is taught by experienced equine Veterinary Nurses from the University of Liverpool referral hospital teams, and other veterinary contributors. Teaching materials are in the form of online lectures, readings, interactive discussion boards, live Zoom sessions with course tutors and speakers and weekly MCQ tests designed to help support your learning. You also have access to the university of Liverpool online library and to discussions with tutors and peers, making learning fun and interactive.

Week 1: Fundamentals of equine nursing - Emma Rees RVN
- Simplifying drug and fluid therapy calculations
- The pharmacodynamics of common equine drug categories (antimicrobials and analgesia)
- Understanding Osmosis and the fundamentals of fluid therapy
- Setting up and maintaining a general practice lab
Week 2: Surgical and anaesthesia nursing - Sarah Clark RVN, Vicky Gregory REVN, Rebecca Bruford RVN
- Suture and needle types, suture patterns, and their applications in equine surgery
- The role and responsibilities of the scrub and circulatory nurse
- General anaesthesia monitoring
- Preparing for a safer anaesthetic recovery

Week 3: Neonatology and medical nursing Annie Graham MRCVS, Bonny Millar REVN, Rebecca Bruford RVN
- Nursing care of the dummy foal at home
- Failure of passive transfer: how nurses can prevent it and their role in treatment
- Neonatal respiratory disease and nursing support
- Understanding blood gas analysis for anaesthesia and medical nursing
