Molecular Diagnostics

All suspected methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) or S. schleiferi (MRSS) isolates are tested by PCR for confirmation of mecA/mecC carriage.

Furthermore, we have expanded our diagnostic PCR panel for detection of infectious agents or bacterial strain typing to include:

• Streptococcus equi ssp. equi (alongside bacterial culture)
• C. perfringens (biotyping, enterotoxin and β² toxin detection)
• C. difficile toxA/B detection (toxA/B PCR and immuno-chromatography)
• Staphylococcus aureus ST398 screening
