The School of Veterinary Sciences has received a donation from dog charity Zoe’s Journey UK to support canine cancer research efforts.

Jayne May, the charity’s founder, faced a challenging time in 2013 when her golden retriever, Zoe, was diagnosed with lymphoma. By 2014, Zoe was deemed cured of cancer and Jayne wanted to give back, raising money to support further canine cancer research to continue fighting for the 25% of all dogs who will be diagnosed.

Since then, Zoe’s Journey UK has continued to raise money to aid cancer research. The School of Veterinary Sciences will receive a generous donation to support research looking at how to prevent the adverse effects sometimes experienced by dogs receiving chemotherapy for their cancer.

Head of the School’s Oncology service, Professor David Killick said: “I was inspired to hear Jayne May tell Zoe’s story. Jayne and her team are doing amazing work in fundraising for canine cancer research.

Adverse effects of chemotherapy are a major concern for both us and pet owners when treating cancer. We are very grateful for the support that Zoe’s Journey has given our research efforts in this area.”
