Degrees with a language
Many of our degrees allow you to study a modern language as 25% of your studies, alongside your major subject.
In addition to a number of Single Honours language degrees, there are lots of opportunities in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to study a modern language as part of your degree alongside another subject. Your chosen language (or languages) will comprise either 50% or 25% of your studies and will be listed on your degree certificate.
The following language subjects can be studied as a Single Honours degree or with another subject as 50% of your studies:
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Hispanic Studies
- Italian.
If you are interested in studying a modern language as 25% of your degree, the following options are available:
- Basque
- Catalan
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Spanish.
As with any other degree programme, you should apply for subject combinations involving a language via UCAS. The codes for these programme can be found on our language combinations grid (PDF, 244KB).
