Professor Neill Liptrott, Chair in Pharmacology and Immunocompatibility, will deliver his inaugural lecture on Wednesday 24 October.

Entitled ‘Tiny science, big impacts - challenges in the development of complex medicines', the lecture is in recognition of Professor Liptrott’s appointment as Chair and is open to staff, students and members of the public.

Complex medicines, such as nanotherapeutics, have revolutionised healthcare in many ways, most recently with the advent of LNP-mRNA vaccines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assessing the safety of any new therapeutic is paramount to its use in patients. However, nanotherapeutics represent a unique challenge as they are well known to interact with the immune system. Whilst this can be useful, care must be taken to balance their safety and efficacy profiles.

Neill has been a member of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics since 2004, and before that studied BSc (Hons) in molecular biology and MSc in immunology at the University of Liverpool. In this lecture, Neill will discuss his team's research and share how his career developed along the way.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 23 October at The Liverpool Medical Institution and Conference Centre from 15:00 to 16:00 followed by a networking drinks reception.

The event is free and registration is required. To register for this event and for further information, please visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/professor-neill-liptrott-inaugural-lecture-tickets-1023949028107.
