Plant Science and Photosynthesis Symposium
Staff and students from across the Faculty recently gathered for the annual Plant Science and Photosynthesis Symposium.
Held in the Life Sciences building, the day was organised by PhD students from the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology and the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences. There were a range of talks from PhD students and postdoctoral researchers and PIs, covering the wide span of plant science and photosynthesis research being carried out across the Faculty.
Professor Pat Eyers, Head of Biochemistry and Systems Biology said: “Plant science in Liverpool is a vital area of research that is having a global impact. Our work covers a broad range of problems relevant to the climate crisis, from research that could lead to increased capture of solar radiation and reduction of greenhouse gasses, to increased crop resistance and drought tolerance change. It is awe-inspiring to see what we will be able to achieve through fundamental research. I’d like to also thank Nicky Rudling and Pei Cing Ng, PhD students, for leading the organisation of the day”.
Nicky Rudling said: “This was the second year of running the plant science and photosynthesis symposium and we were really glad to see so many people from so many different areas of research attending. We would like to thank the ISMIB PGR and postdoc societies for funding the event and we hope that we can continue to run this student-led event every year to give PGR students and postdocs the opportunity to present their work to a friendly and enthusiastic audience.”
