About the event
Inaugural Lecture: 'Tiny science, big impacts - challenges in the development of complex medicines'
Professor Neill Liptrott, Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Complex medicines, such as nanotherapeutics, have revolutionised healthcare in many ways, most recently with the advent of LNP-mRNA vaccines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assessing the safety of any new therapeutic is paramount to its use in patients. However, nanotherapeutics represent a unique challenge as they are well known to interact with the immune system. Whilst this can be useful, care must be taken to balance their safety and efficacy profiles.
Neill has been a member of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics since 2004, and before that studied molecular biology (BSc Hons) and immunology (MSc) at the University of Liverpool. In this talk, Neill will discuss his team's research and share how his career developed along the way.
The lecture will take place 15:00 - 16:00, followed by a networking drinks reception.
