Reporting and performance
As part of the University’s commitment to embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations, we are committed to reporting our performance and measuring the effect of what we do, to gauge the success of our Sustainability Strategy. Our performance is monitored internally through our Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and also through external bodies.
- The University is ranked 50th out of 1,403 institutions globally in the QS Sustainability Rankings in 2024
- The University is ranked in the top 100 institutions worldwide in the The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for 2024
- Since 2020, we have risen over 50 paces in People & Planet's 2021 University League from a 3rd class to 2:1 class sustainable university
- We are classed as 'leading the way' on committing to and delivering ambitious carbon reduction targets to tackle the climate emergency by SOS-UK

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide meaningful Key Performance Indicators and targets related to each SDG. Our annual Sustainable Development Goals Report, captures the activities across research, teaching, public engagement and campus operations which support these goals in alignment with the University’s strategic vision and objectives.

Our EMS ensures the University complies with relevant environmental legislation and continually reduces its environmental impacts and improves environmental performance.
