Policies and plans

This University is committed to the systematic incorporation of environmental concern and social responsibility into our decisions and action. To indicate our commitment to our stakeholders, identify the key issues and act as a touchstone for our actions, the University has adopted a number of key policies and strategies.

Policies and plans
Sustainability Strategy The sustainability strategy creates a long-term vision for our shared future that encapsulates our desire to act as global leaders in environmental, social and corporate sustainability. Reviewed annually, it gives us renewed ambition, a clarity of purpose, and a guiding framework to reach our goal to become a more environmentally and socially sustainable organisation.
Climate Plan

The University's Climate Plan sets out our ambitions, principles and commitments to being net zero by 2035. With key activities already underway, the Climate Plan will help us transition to net zero at pace and with real impact.

Waste Management Plan

The University’s Waste Management Plan (2021 - 2025) outlines how we will reduce waste through prevention, reuse, recycling, and recovery, ensuring safe, lawful disposal and improved waste practices.

Environmental Policy Statement The University’s environmental policy outlines the University’s sustainability objectives and provides a clear commitment to comply with relevant legislation, regulations and other requirements.
Climate and Ecological Crisis Joint Statement University of Liverpool, Campus Trade Unions, and Liverpool Guild of Students Joint Declaration of a Climate and Ecological Crisis.
Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research & Innovation Practice The University of Liverpool signed letter of commitment to the priorities of the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice.

The Sustainability Annual Report provides a review of our performance over the previous academic year, and our progress towards achieving the aims and objectives set out in our environmental policy, sustainability policy, sustainability strategy and climate plan. It is published each year retrospectively during semester three of the academic year once relevant data has been published by HESA.
