University wins at National Sustainable Travel Awards
The University of Liverpool has won the ‘Best TravelWise Week Campaign for Business’ award at the Team Modeshift National Sustainable Travel Awards.
The award acknowledges the University’s contribution to raising awareness of sustainable transport options and encouraging sustainable travel behaviours during TravelWise Week which took place in September 2023.
Special commendation was given to cross departmental efforts, which included successfully engaging with several key stakeholders and internal teams to close roads across University of Liverpool campus for Welcome Week, when staff and students could take advantage of the traffic free environment. In addition to the road closures, University Square was used to showcase food stalls and promote active and sustainable travel options via stalls events and activities, including a led bike ride with not-for-profit cooperative, Peloton Liverpool. This was supported by a targeted social media campaign promoting active and sustainable modes of travel.
Alexandra Preugschat and Laela Purvis-Greenway from the Sustainability Department collected the award on behalf of the University at an awards ceremony held York Racecourse on 23rd November.
Chris Jordan, Project Manager in Facilities, Residential and Commercial Services said: “The Welcome Week road closure, organised in collaboration with departments across the University, was part of the wider Public Realm works, to enhance the student experience during Welcome Week. This award is a welcome acknowledgement of all the hard work the team continues to put in”.
Paul Redmond, Director of Student Experience and Enhancement said “This is a fantastic award and one that we’re very proud to receive. Welcome Week is one of the highpoints of the academic year and we are always looking for new and creative ways to connect our students the campus and the city. This year’s University Square initiative made a huge difference and got the new year off to a flying start.”
