The LEAF pilot at the University of Liverpool
In 2021 the University of Liverpool signed up to pilot LEAF along with 4 other UK universities and in collaboration with the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC).
The pilot group at the University of Liverpool was a mix of academic and technical staff who volunteered to engage with the LEAF framework. 20 labs across the University signed up for the pilot with the aim of achieving bronze certification, 11 areas in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and 9 in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
At the end of the pilot, 7 areas in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and 7 areas in Faculty of Science and Engineering were awarded a bronze certification. The pilot completion rate of 70% demonstrated positive engagement with the scheme.
Since the pilot labs across the campus have continued to sign up. The labs that joined early have gone on to achieve higher levels of LEAF awards. Now, the University of Liverpool has over 140 laboratories signed up for LEAF.
