Are you surrounded by unused items that still have life left in them? Is your department running out of storage? Could you do with freeing space in your office or lab?
The University recently launched an internal reuse platform called Warp It. This is available to all University of Liverpool staff, providing a convenient way to list, request and claim unwanted furniture, equipment and stationery. These items are then redistributed across our campus by Mail and Transport’s Heavy Gang to new, internal users. This not only saves time and money compared to disposal and purchasing new, but it also helps free useful space, prevent waste and reduce our carbon footprint.

Warp It has had a great response since its launch as part of Sustainability Week 2025 with 181 items exchanged, saving £27,248 and preventing the generation of over 3 tonnes of waste!
We now need you to list your unwanted items, making these available to others in the University and keeping our valuable resources in use.
Spring is the perfect time to have a clear out, so we’ve put together this helpful guide.
- Accessing Warp It couldn’t be easier, simply visit the Warp It platform and sign in with your University details. You may be asked to authenticate via Duo.
- From here, listing an item is quick and convenient. Simply select ‘My Items’ from the lefthand menu, then ‘Add an Item’ from the drop-down. You will then be presented with a form to complete with details including title, category, sub-category, number of items, dimensions, condition, location, dates and any additional information, with the option to upload an image of your item from your saved files. Selecting ‘Add Item’ will then publish your listing.
- There are also options available for bulk adding items and uploading from Excel.
- To delete or edit a listing, select ‘My Items’ from the lefthand menu, followed by ‘Active Items’ from the drop down. You will then be able to view all of your current listings. To edit or delete, simply click on the relevant listing.
- Items listed on Warp It that aren’t claimed within 4 weeks can be moved to the University's dedicated Central Store facility by logging a Heavy Gang request on PlanOn.
- If you would like to schedule training for yourself or your team, please contact Circular Economy Manager, Rhiannon Hunt: rhiannon.hunt@liverpool.ac.uk
We’ve already made great progress towards our annual targets for Warp It:
- £27,248 or £50,000 saved
- 3,137kg of 5,000kg waste avoided
- 12,605kg of 20,000kg CO2e eliminated
- 181 of 300 items exchanged
- 263 of 300 staff members registered
Is there anything that can’t be Warped?
It’s possible to list just about any internal asset on Warp It for internal reuse within the University, including furniture, equipment, stationary, consumables and laboratory equipment. However, it’s important that items listed meet the following criteria:
- The item is not an IT issued asset
- The item is not a data holding device
- The item does not contain confidential information
- The item is not (nor is contaminated with) a hazardous substance
- You have the necessary permissions and authorisation to list the item
