We are excited to bring you the latest edition of Sustainable Liverpool, and the first of 2023. We are kicking off the year in style with the University's first ever Sustainability Week which took place from 20th - 28th February. We a visited the Suez Renew Hub, celebrated World Book Day and much more.
Everyone has a part to play in helping the University achieve its net zero target. So please get in touch and share your sustainability news, and who knows, you could be featured in the next issue of Sustainable Liverpool!
Hey! We're ending period poverty on campus
28th May is Menstrual Hygiene Day and at the University, we are dedicated to improving period dignity, ending the stigma surrounding menstruation and ending period poverty.

International Day for Biological Diversity: Building Back Biodiversity
The 22nd May 2023 marks the 22nd annual International Day of Biodiversity, a globally recognised day to raise awareness of biodiversity issues. Promoted by the United Nations, it aims to promote innovative solutions to the biodiversity crisis and bring these to the forefront of global conversations on sustainable development.

Veg out on this! Supporting Vegetarian Week
Whether for the environment or other reasons, May is a great time to try vibrant, vegetarian options as part of National Vegetarian Week 2023. The University has a variety of vegetarian and plant-based items to choose from in the cafes and restaurants across campus.

This week is Hedgehog Awareness Week, an annual campaign organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society to highlight the problems hedgehogs face and how you can help them.

Every year on 22nd April the world celebrates Earth Day, and this year the theme is ‘invest in our planet’, highlighting the importance of dedicating our time, resources, and energy to solving climate change and other environmental issues.

Have your say on travel and transport at the University - complete our annual travel survey
Annual travel surveys are being launched for the first time since the pandemic, to help us gather information on staff and student travel habits, including how people travel to and from the University, how often they travel and what modes of transport they use. The surveys will also seek opinions on sustainable travel schemes and initiatives.

The University’s Environmental Sustainability Team and the Strategic Change Department have been highly commended at this year’s AUDE Awards in the ‘University Impact Initiative of the Year’ category.
