We are excited to share with you the second issue of Sustainable Liverpool, a newsletter celebrating the amazing work going on to make the University more sustainable. In this issue, we dive deeper into Net Zero and SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals. We also celebrate our staff who have made a significant impact on Sustainability at the University, and our students who are helping to make a real difference.

Staff awards 2022
The University’s Staff Awards recognise staff commitment, skills and successes and are judged by a panel of colleagues from a broad range of areas.

Meet your Guild Sustainability Champion: Hana Sanadi
Hana Sanadi is the 2022 Guild Sustainability Champion, an award given to a student who ‘embodies the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through their activity’ and ‘makes an outstanding contribution to sustainability on campus and beyond’.

Research Excellence Framework 2021 results show significant progress for University of Liverpool
After making significant progress in the Research Excellence Framework 2021, the University has reinforced its place as a world leading research institution. To add to this excellent result, each of the Impact Case Studies submitted by the University can be aligned with at least one of the UNSDG targets.

Focus on SDG17: Partnership for the Goals
In the recently released Times Higher Education Impact Rankings League, the University was ranked number 1 in the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings League for its partnership work in support of the UN SDG 17. Here we explore some of the different activities being undertaken across the institution which support this SDG’s far-reaching targets.

Sustainability funding awarded
The Sustainability Fund received a diverse range of applications from staff keen to establish projects aligned to the aims of our Sustainability Strategy. Ten projects were awarded funding in June, and Sustainable Liverpool will be charting their progress over the coming months.

Sustainability in Action - educating future generations
Sustainability in Action is a course in Canvas which explores the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). It is designed to provide students with knowledge on this important aspect of sustainability and how they can apply it to their own life.
